Safety devices

You head out the door on a run. You’ve got sunscreen on, water in hand and the right shoes, but do you have some truly important necessities that could save your life? These items aren’t always at the top of your list, but they should be in the event something happens to you.

ID: Always, always carry your ID with you if you are running alone. In the unlikely event that something were to happen to you, this provides medical personnel or authorities with key information. I slip mine into the front pocket of my running shorts. You can also purchase a running bracelet that contains this information.

Key storage: You should consider where you store your car keys. I put this under safety in that if you lose your key, someone could take your car. I put my key in my running shorts or slip it into my sports bra, which has a built-in pocket. You can also try one of these pouches

Light: If you are running at night, you should wear light-colored clothing that is reflective. You should also consider wearing one of these flashing lights or a reflective vest.
